Community and Family support

NWCFRC provides supports and services to individuals, families and the community in the local area.

North West Clare Family Resource Centre (NWCFRC) provides a broad range of services, programmes and activities for the North West Clare community. It is a locally managed organisation with a voluntary board. Its ethos is to involve local people in identifying family and community needs and developing relevant and appropriate services to meet these needs.

Services include Little Deers Childcare, which is day care service for children aged 0 to 12 years. The Homework Club is a service provided in partnership with Clarecare for local Traveller children in the area.

Training programmes for parents include Parents Plus Programme which is a practical evidence-based parenting course that supports families to communicate effectively, to overcome emotional/ behavioural problems and to create enjoyable and satisfying family relationships.

Rainbows Programme for children in 1st to 6th class is a 9 week programme that supports children who have experienced loss either by the death of a close family member or whose family has changed due to separation or divorce.
A counselling service is provided for adolescents and adults and Play Therapy is available for children.

A Community Garden has being developed behind the NWCFRC and work is ongoing to realise the overall plan which will finally include raised herb and flower beds, a natural play area for children, raised vegetable beds, sitting areas for relaxation, several areas for flower gardening, and a patio area for gatherings. Training courses are offered in flower and vegetable gardening.
Ennistymon Men’s Shed has been meeting since December 2014 to undertake training, projects and social engagement opportunities.
The Textile Group was established in 2012 and meets from September to June every Wednesday from 10am-1pm. It works on drop-in basis and the members informally teach one another new craft skills. Various textile related courses are also provided.

Youth programme include Clare Youth Action which is a group of young people living in the Ennistymon area who volunteer locally with different charities and worthy causes. Clare Youth Action has recently garnered a lot of media attention for its short film called ‘Plastic’, which has won many awards and continues to get recognition.

Other Youth programmes include Ennistymon Youth Film Club, Youth Shack Ennistymon and Friday Soccer Club which provide valuable supervised opportunities for social interaction for young people.

NWCFRC is also home to Ennistymon-Liscannor Community Employment Project.
